Guidelines for the Purchase and Handling of Alcoholic Beverages
Document Type: Consumer Compliance Notice
Target Audience: Court House Groceries Customers
Subject: Regulatory Requirements for Alcohol Transactions and Disposal

1. Purchase Requirements & Identification
To ensure compliance with state and local liquor control board regulations, all customers must adhere to the following protocols at the point of sale:
-
Mandatory ID Presentation: Every customer, regardless of apparent age, must present a valid, government-issued photo identification (e.g., Driver’s License, State ID, Passport, or Military ID) at the time of purchase.
-
Verification Standards: Digital images of IDs or expired documents are generally not accepted. The ID must be intact, legible, and contain a clear photograph and date of birth.
-
Refusal of Service: Staff are legally obligated to refuse sales to individuals who are under the legal drinking age, those who fail to provide valid identification, or individuals who appear visibly intoxicated.
2. Payment Guidelines (Credit Card Transactions)
The use of credit cards for alcohol purchases is subject to financial regulations and store verification policies:
-
Authorized Use: Credit cards must be presented by the cardholder. The name on the credit card must match the name on the presented government-issued photo ID.
-
Verification: To prevent fraudulent transactions, cashiers may request a secondary form of identification or signature verification if the card is not EMV-chip enabled.
-
Age-Restricted Processing: The point-of-sale (POS) system will automatically prompt the cashier to input the birthdate from the customer’s physical ID before a credit card can be authorized for alcohol purchases.
3. Return Policy
Due to strict regulatory oversight regarding the distribution of alcohol, our return policy is limited:
-
Regulatory Constraints: In accordance with state liquor laws, alcoholic beverages are typically non-returnable once the product has left the premises.
-
Defective Products: Exceptions may be made strictly for products that are defective (e.g., corked wine or damaged seals). These must be reported immediately with the original receipt.
-
Proof of Purchase: Returns or exchanges for eligible items require the original physical receipt and are subject to manager approval to ensure the integrity of the supply chain.
4. Safe Disposal Procedures
Responsible consumption and disposal are strictly enforced as part of our community health mandate:
-
Empty Containers: Please recycle or dispose of all alcoholic beverage containers in accordance with local municipal ordinances. Do not discard glass bottles in general litter bins.
-
Unopened Product: If you have purchased alcohol in error and it remains unopened, please consult with local law enforcement or local disposal guidelines, as Court House Groceries cannot accept returns of opened or surplus inventory.
-
Prohibition of Public Consumption: It is illegal to open or consume alcoholic beverages on the store premises, in the parking lot, or in any public area adjacent to the store.
Warning/Legal Disclaimer
Court House Groceries strictly enforces all state and federal laws regarding the sale of alcohol.
-
Underage Purchase: Attempting to purchase alcohol with a fake ID or on behalf of a minor is a criminal offense subject to prosecution.
-
Intoxication: We reserve the right to deny service to any patron who exhibits signs of intoxication.
-
Liability: Customers are reminded that they are legally responsible for their actions following the purchase of alcohol. Please consume responsibly and never operate a motor vehicle while under the influence.
Failure to comply with these policies will result in an immediate denial of service.
